Abyssinia

I could not be more pleased to announce the release of my new book, Abyssinia, on the Mount Abraxas imprint of Ex Occidente Press in Bucharest. The book is printed in a new format, which is, in my opinion, the most exquisite style yet from this most exquisite of presses.

Abyssinia follows the intrigues and deceptions of two women, each of which are staying in one of seven luxury suites in the Hotel Argentum. The suites are named after former European territories whose boundaries have since been subsumed. Petra has checked into Fiume, whose final days were spent beneath the deranged auspices of the poet and dictator Gabriele D’Annunzio. Celia is staying in Galicia, whose fate was sealed soon after the First World War. Between the women stands Karl Reginald von Lobkowicz, an antiquated doll which Celia is seldom seen without. Petra’s fascination vacillates between the cracked and blemished figure and its eccentric owner. The matter is further complicated by the appearance of an eighth suite, which appears to be concealed somewhere within the Hotel grounds.

Abyssinia draws its intoxicating atmosphere from Robert Altman's Three Women, Claude Chabrol’s Les Biches, and Ingmar Bergman’s Persona.

Daughters of Apostasy

               

           

It is a pleasure and an honor to announce that Daughters of Apostasy, a collection of my stories and novellas, is now available to order from Snuggly Books as part of The Latin Bundle. There are six books in total, including new masterpieces from Quentin S. Crisp and Rhys Hughes, as well as three classics of decadent and symbolist literature which have never before appeared in English. An act of trespass, the subtle topology of an opulent hotel, a lengthy composition involving an exiled abbess, a letter mailed to an unknown recipient, a border station concealed by inexplicable winds, an antiquated electronic game, a rite of passage modulated by a metronome, a Gnostic heresy, a ruined church, an employee engaged in illicit acts of passion: by these and several other devices do the daughters of apostasy seek to irritate the vessels of the earth. Strange wine may be distilled thereby, and thus might the obsessive aspirant perceive the tenets of a hidden doctrine.

In these five stories and novellas, the intrigues and stratagems of interlopers, initiates, poets, and bibliophiles are revealed in all their illicit splendor. By way of complex and labyrinthine routes do they come to obtain impossible relics not known even among the kings of the earth.

I am extremely pleased to announced the imminent release of ALL IS FULL OF HELL : A Panegyric for William Blake, an homage to the unceasing labours of the eternal poet, a tribute to Albion’s angel as he burns beside the Stone of Night, a lamp left flaming on the altar for the unfading Queen of Heaven, and a testament to the radiant ichor of the prophets and the heretics.

The Academy Outside of Ingolstadt

It gives me great pleasure to announce the publication of The Academy Outside of Ingolstadt, a short novel that I wrote over a period of several months throughout the course of 2016. The book will be published on the Mount Abraxas imprint of Ex Occidente Press in Bucharest, featuring illustrations by Sasha Schneider and cover illustrations by the extremely talented Oliver Liebeskind. This book comprises what is easily the longest and most complex piece of fiction I've yet written. Among many other things, it is an homage to the work of Robert Walser and Octave Mirbeau.

On the eve of the Great War, a young man is sent away from home to spend a two-year period in an exclusive boarding school outside of Ingolstadt. What he’s done to merit his selection is a mystery to him, yet his family life is less than ideal and he finds himself drawn to the unfamiliar rigors of the Academy. The school maintains a pretense of nobility, and yet the teachings are perplexing and obscure, the rules and regulations only partially revealed, and the methods of instruction are replete with unexpected perils. By way of stealth, adversity, provocation, and deception, the novitiate is compelled to face a treacherous ordeal that very nearly leads to his undoing.

Several decades later he returns to the school, taking a position as a member of the faculty. As the secrets of his past are gradually unveiled before him, he finds himself once more upon the precipice of an abyss. After a final revelation, he comes at last to comprehend the true nature and extent of the Academy’s teachings.
